As mayor, I will continue to work with our schools, police, health department, the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, and the Melrose Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition and other stakeholders to develop a plan to combat opioid addiction in Melrose and get people the services they need. Far too often, people who overdose are revived, just to have our first responders called back. We need to work together to give these people who have fallen victim to addiction a path to recovery. We will look at best practices from other communities, particularly the use of recovery coaches as part of the response and follow up to overdose calls.
We must ensure our first responders have the equipment, facilities and training they need to protect our community. Achieving this requires planning. As mayor, I will create a building and equipment plan that keeps our facilities up-to-date and our first responders' equipment updated on a consistent basis to protect them and our City.
